Díaz Brothers Make History at Citi Field

Mets top Reds in front of family at Citi Field

In a historic moment for the New York Mets, brothers Edwin Díaz and Alexis Díaz took the mound together for the first time in their Major League Baseball careers on Sunday, July 30, 2023.

The Díaz brothers, both from Puerto Rico, combined to pitch two scoreless innings in the Mets' 3-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds at Citi Field. Edwin, the Mets' closer, struck out two batters in the eighth inning, while Alexis, a rookie reliever, pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his first career save.

The game was a special moment for the Díaz family, who were in attendance at Citi Field to witness the historic event.

Edwin Díaz is one of the most dominant closers in baseball, with 154 career saves. He has been an All-Star three times and has finished in the top 10 in the National League Cy Young Award voting twice.

Alexis Díaz is a promising young pitcher who is still developing.

The Díaz brothers are the first set of brothers to pitch in the same game for the Mets since 1969, when Jerry Koosman and Casey Koosman took the mound together.

The Mets' victory was their third in a row, and it improved their record to 60-40 on the season.
